Don't Wait For the New Year!
The end of the year is drawing near, which has many people thinking about what they will accomplish, change, or tackle in 2020. It is good and exciting to think ahead about what goals we can smash and new heights we can climb. While having goals and events to look forward to in the New Year is awesome, just remember that you don’t have to wait for a fresh year to begin making changes in your life. It is JUST a new calendar year. We have become conditioned to think that the slate is wiped clean for a new year and nothing we did before matters. Furthermore, we have been conditioned to think that resolutions in a new year are actually effective. If you have made a New Year’s resolution that you stuck to in the past, congratulations because you are in the minority! Each day is a new opportunity to do something great. Change something because you are ready! There is a much higher likelihood that you will stick to it because you are ready rather than because another January has arrived. Make a small change now, whether it is eating more vegetables, eating a good breakfast, or listening to your hunger signals more. You can still enjoy some holiday goodies and make positive changes, but waiting for a random day to appear on your calendar will not fix everything. So don’t wait, don’t expect to change everything all at once, and remember that each day is a new day to do something better than the day before.
